Day ones agenda was creating smooth surfaces, and included image transfers, working with charcoal, graphite, pan pastels and carbon paper. They all took to it like ducks to water creating some stunning pieces. Day two was, texture. dry brushing, stencils, masking, line and edge, gold leaf and my new favourite graphite powder. We also worked on creating landscapes with colour, and employing some of the previously learnt techniques. The tables were full of exciting shapes, forms, and colours. It was such a visual delight. Some students chose to concentrate on pattern and texture, whilst others delved into imagined landscapes. Lunchtime came and went with many of the students choosing to continue working through lunch, Encaustic is a bit like that once you discover its seduction you are hooked.
There’s just something special about Port Kembla and Red point Gallery that sparks creativity. We loved it and we can’t wait to return. More photos are on our Gallery page Here
