The last week in February, we parked our caravan at Mowbray Park just outside of Picton, Mowbray Park is now a holiday Farm stay and working Farm, but It also has a fascinating history.

After World War One, the Red Cross used the property for treating “shell-shocked soldiers” and in the 30s and 40s it was used by Dr Barnardo’s to teach repatriated English orphans farming skills,
During World War II  Opium Poppies  were grown on five acres of the land, to supply morphine for our overseas troops. Blair and the team at Mowbray Park were so friendly and ensured our stay was so comfortable. we highly recommend this place for a day trip or longer adventure. One of the joys of our nomadic lifestyle is seeing new places , exploring the amazing  history of Australia and meeting new and interesting people. We never know what we will discover next.
For our "Scissors, Paper, Wax" workshop with Wollondilly Art Group, fourteen eager students discovered how to combine Encaustic with plaster and paper.

On the Saturday we made plaster bandage books.
Then we explored using encaustic techniques on plaster. Students also learnt how to collage with paper on the hotplate, layering and, adding different thicknesses of paper together,
After a yummy morning tea prepared by Pam we then explored how to create monoprints on the hotplate using masks, stencils and silicone tools. Students also played with the wax stylus pens. At the end of the day we had great fun making rusty and bleached papers.

On Sunday day 2, Working with plaster was the order of the day. The pages we created yesterday now began to emerge as the base for image transfers, gold leaf, rub on foils, charcoal, pan pastel, and our rusted and bleached papers. Everyone’s work was so individual. So many amazing works
